Ghana National Biology Challenge
Heads of school and teachers are informed about the GNBC from October of the preceding competition year through in-person notifications by GhScientific volunteers and team members. A notification is also issued on the GhScientific and GNBC website and across our social media platforms for online promotion.
The GNBC is organised by GhScientific.
There are three rounds of the competition.
Round 1 - Students take two sixty-minute online multiple choice tests.
Round 2 - Students who make the pass mark are invited back to take a ninety-minute written paper followed by a practical research experience day at a leading lab in the University of Ghana.
Round 3 - Sixteen students are invited back to the University of Ghana where they will take part in a practical assessment. Up to four finalists will be selected to represent Ghana at the International Biology Olympiad.
Round 1 - Multiple choice
A two week summer training camp is organised at a selected School of which 1 week is for training the finalists. Students practice by guided self study in their own time
The main study material is the national textbook recommended for secondary schools.
Certificate of participation issued to all finalist as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
The GNBC is ciurrently sponsored by GhScientific and by the participants
The Ghana National Biology Challenge currently follows the same rules as the International Biology Olympiad
