Olimpiade Sains Nasional (OSN) / National Science Olympiad
NBO is Made by Ministry of National Education, Directorate of Management & Secondary Education. All promotion and information concerning the Sciences Olympiad from National to International Level (including activities of selection) are made in the booklet or posters
IBO activities in Indonesia are managed by the Office of Indonesian Ministry of National Education.
The Sciences Olympiad Team (Coordinator, Tutors, Assistants, etc) work together with high school teachers and Sub-directorate of Secondary Education (which is under The Indonesian Minister of Education). The Science Olympiad Team also builds a network with Universities from every Province in Indonesia.
The timing for the selection process is discussed and coordinated with each province university representative. The material for each selection step, as well as the text book used is also discussed.
Indonesia has been holding National Selection (National Science Olympiad = NSO) for International Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Olympiad since 2002.
The total number of students participating in the 1st (city selection) and 2nd (province selection) selection has been increasing over the years (at Province level reaching 2500 students in 2010).
From 2002 until 2008, Ninety (90) students (from the 1st and 2nd selection result) have been selected to participate in National Science Olympiad = NSO (NBO). In 2009 the number of students increases into 104. In 2010, the number of students again increases into 112. However, the medal is only awarded for 30 students: 5 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze. 50 students from NBO will be selected for further selection for International level.
The test materials for the 1st, 2nd, and national selection are made by TOBI. The 1st and 2nd selection tests consist of only theoretical test, while the national level test (NBO) consists of both theoretical and practical tests.
Students from 33 Provinces in Indonesia will be selected starting from high school level (by the Biology teacher of each school), then City level (1st selection), Province level (2nd selection), and National level (National Sciences Olympiad, in which National Biology Olympiad (NBO) is a part of it). Indonesian Biology Olympiad Team (TOBI) will select students from the result of NBO selection. These students will participate in further training and selection at School of Life Sciences (SITH-ITB).
The number of students participating in Biology Olympiad in 2010 recorded by TOBI (only of those who participate in the 2nd selection onward) is 2.500 students. 112 of them are then called to follow the national level test (NBO) 1-7 August 2010. The list of NBO participants 2010 are listed below:
PARTICIPANTS OF NBO (National Biology Olympiad) MEDAN, SUMATERA UTARA PROVINCE : 1 - 7 AUGUST 2010
Four best students from NBO 2010 will participate in training for 2 weeks in June 2011. These students will represent Indonesia at International Level, 22nd IBO in Chinese Taipei, July 10-17 2011.
The material used to train the best students follows the syllabus of IBO (theoretical and practical). Besides studying in class and laboratory, the students also participated in field observation. The text book used as references are: 1) Campbell et al., 2006. Biology: Concept & Connection. 5th ed. 20 Purves et al., 1998. Life: The Science of Biology. Vil. I, II & III 5th ed.
In addition, text books of Ecology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Animal & Human Physiology, Genetic, Animal Anatomy, Invertebrate Biology, Plant Anatomy, Plant Physiology, and Plant Taxonomy & Biosystematics are also used.
Students Prizes are given in NSO (NBO) for 30 best students among 112 participants. The detail of the prizes and award are given as follow:
5 Gold medals, 10 Silver medals and 15 Bronze medals (total 30 medals), with Trophy for The best Theory and The Best Experiment.
