Qatar Biology Olympiad

-                   Announcement of the QBO competition by the MOE for governmental, private and international schools in Qatar during September.

-                   Meeting the Biology coordinators from all participating schools to announce the completion procedures and the criteria of selecting students.

-                   Designing of the QBO logo through a specialized agency and publishing that logo to schools and through the social media. 

-                   Raising the awareness about the QBO and promoting it through press, and social media

 

-                   Meeting the nominated students and their parents to increase the awareness of the QBO. 


Ministry of Education (MOE) is the main organizer for the QBO

QBO is divided into 4 rounds as follows:

Round 1: October 2016

350 students from all governmental and international schools from the secondary level set for an online multiple-choice test of 60 questions. The students’ selection criteria are:

1. The student’s Biology grade should not be below 95%.

2. The student’s English grade should not be below 90%.

3. The student’s birthdate should be beyond July 1, 1997.

The top 25% of students from round 1 will be selected to participate in round 2 of the QBO.

Round 2: January 2017

In round 2, students will set for a written exam; The top 60 students from round 2 will be selected to participate in round 3 of the QBO.

Round 3: February 2017 

In this stage, students will set for a practical exam that measures the IBO-required skills. The top 20 students from round 3 will be selected to participate in round 4 of the QBO.

 

Round 4: March 2017 

In this stage, students will set for a theoretical test –of 10 true or false questions- that simulate the IBO test.

-All exams of QBO were prepared and marked by Educational supervisors in the MOE.

Student Training:

- Students are asked to study at home the topics covered in the syllabus of IBO

 

- The training camp for two weeks will focus on the practical skills required for IBO practical test topics (plant biology, biochemistry and developmental physiology). The training will be held in Qatar University and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.


Round 1: October 2016 : an online multiple-choice test of 60 questions.

Round 2: January 2017 : a written exam of 20 questions.

Round 3: February 2017  :  a practical exam of 2 questions.

Round 4: March 2017  : a theoretical test –of 10 true or false questions.

Medals (Gold- Silver – Bronze) for the top 20 students from round 4

The MOE, Qatar University, Qatar Foundation and Private Companies will support the NBO both financially and technically


Ministry of Education Funds the Olympiad, and hire the trainers and provide the prizes.


- Students should be of the top 10 in his/her school.

- Students should be very good in English and Arabic Language.

- Students should have excellent practical skills.


100% of National schools participate every year.

 

from September 2016 to May 2017.
