The Republican subject Olympiads in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, history, geography, Azerbaijani language and literature are organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 2018 Ministry of Education issued the Rules describing detailed aspects of organizing and conducting all Republican Subject Olympiads. 

The Republican subject Olympiads are held among 9th, 10th, and 11th grades of secondary schools in each academic year.

The Republican subject Olympiads consists of two stages - regional (city) and republican stages. The republican stage includes the semi-final and the final rounds.

The regional (city) stage takes place in January, the semi-final round of the republican stage is in March and the final round of the republican stage is in May.

According to the results of the regional (city) stage, the best students who have correctly answered at least 60 percent of questions in each subject and grade, gain the right to participate in the semi-final round of the republican stage.

Questions for all stages and rounds of Republican subject Olympiads are prepared by a committee of academic specialists in different fields of biological science and correspond in general to the syllabus of IBO. 

The students take tests in the regional (city) and the semi-final round of the republican stage. The tests include questions with a single correct answer. In the final round of the republican stage, various types of tasks are used among the proposed questions, including multiple-choice, comparison/contrast statements, true-false and etc.

All students who intend to participate at the Republican Subject Olympiads optionally have training at home or at school in their own districts, cities, etc. 

The students attend a two-week camp for the theoretical course and practical training in the laboratory before the IBO. 

Secondary school textbooks, university textbooks.

All participants of the final round of the republican stage are awarded a “Certificate of Participation” and gold, silver and bronze medals for the winners (up to 50% of the number of participants). The winners receive some memorable gifts/souvenirs from the Ministry of Education.

Winners of the final round are granted university entrance without an exam to the biology specialty of any University in Azerbaijan.
