Organization & structure

Georgian National Olympiad include three rounds:1- Local site Round (competition among school students ( 10th and 11th -12th classes) - take place in December

2- Regional round (competition among school students of 0th and 11th -12th classes - winners of the Local site Round -who gain 60% or more of the maximum score in the test and ranked among the first 1000 students in the ranking list) take place in March.

3- National round (competition among school students of 10th and 11th -12th classes - winners of the Regional round-who have scored at least 50% of the maximum score of the test and ranked among the top 50 participants in the ranking list.) take place in April.

After the national round students ranked among the top 20 participants in the ranking list are writing tests exactly as IBO (theoretical) and the best 4 students are then selected as Georgian representatives for IBO.

about 30000 competitors participate in the first - Local site Round.

Tests

All 3 rounds include multiple choice/true false test and open questions (25 questions in each round) based on school courses (The program covers Human Physiology, for Genetics and Biotechnology, General Biology) produced by an NBO team (Representatives of the subject group of biology at the National Examinations center -NAEC).

The first round is taken in schools or a digital platform.

Training

Prior each Round all students are being trained individually.

Best 8 out of the last level will proceed for special training for 2 weeks at the University. Here, the students are trained mostly in practical skills.

After the 3rd round diplomas and prizes are awarded to the best students.

School students from 10th, 11th and 12th grades are participate in the NBO.

Biology hours/week

Minimum 2 hours in the week in publics schools and maximum 3-4 hours in the week in privative schools.

Hours of Classes/week

about 30 hours in week (each hour lasts in reality 45 minutes) for general education.

Statistics over the years
  • 2022: 31900 students from 2100 schools (90% of eligible schools)
  • 2021: 30700 students from 2100 schools (89.3% of eligible schools)
